Why 519 is so much higher than other trades

HVAC needs more than three times the reviews that painters need, and more than eight times what electricians need. Why? Lots of HVAC companies fight for the same towns, and homeowners call a lot when the AC dies in a Texas summer. More jobs, more competitors, more reviews. The bar climbs.
This is the non-obvious part: the review bar is not a trophy, it is the price of entry. Hitting 519 does not put you on top. It gets you into the room with the contractors who already rank. Below it, you are mostly invisible on the map.

So two things have to be true. You need enough reviews to clear the bar and rank, and you need the stars high enough that people don't scroll past you. A pile of reviews with a 3.6 average works against you. Volume and rating both count.
Responding to reviews is free leverage
Most contractors get this wrong. 88% of people would use a business that responds to all its reviews (BrightLocal 2024). That is a free edge. It costs nothing but a few minutes, and most of your competitors aren't doing it.
Reply to the good ones with a thank-you. Reply to the bad ones calm and professional. People reading later see how you handle a problem, and that often matters more than the complaint itself.
How to actually get to 519
There is no trick. You get reviews by asking, and by asking consistently. The companies at 519 didn't get there by accident. They built a habit: finish the job, ask for the review while the customer is happy, send a direct link to their Google profile.
Do the math on your own pace. If a tech closes out a handful of jobs a day and even a fraction leave a review, you build steadily over months. The contractors ahead of you have been doing this for years. The only way to catch up is to start the habit now and never drop it.
Reviews protect the leads you already pay for
